Stitching from Stash - January

I made it through the first month without spending a Penney! I'm participating in the Epic Stash Project.    It was a wee bit hard, but really wanting to finish the wolf for Ian has kept me motivated to stitch what I already have.  I think by next month, I'll probably fall off the wagon just a wee bit, as my needle supply is quickly dwindling...
So far, so good!  If I keep up at this pace, Visa is sure to call to see if I'm still among the living because there haven't been any $ charges made to xs stores.  Lol

Month one down:  ELEVEN to go - ACK!!!!!      LOL

"Eye" see you!

Here's my re-start on the project that Ian asked me to stitch for him and what it's "supposed" to look like when I get it finished.  Obviously, I'm starting in the middle "eye" area.

I made huge, un-fixable boo-boo's the last time I tried to stitch this, so I'm hoping this time that I can keep those huge, honkin' frogs away and finish this project for the not-so-little guy who LOVES wolves.

(Excuse the blue colors - I'm stitching it on antique white fabric but I think it's just been so cold here lately, my camera has taken on a frosty blue shade - lol)  I know, I know - cold is a relative term.  Here in the "sunshine" state, it's been running 30's - 50's...my heart goes out to those folks who picked this week to come do Disney. There will soon be rejoicing in the kingdom however - we're supposed to rebound into the low 80's by the up-coming weekend.

I also need to mention how happy I am for the UCF knights AND the FSU Seminoles!!!  Way to go, guys! Ya'all put the fun into football!!   :)

Happy New Year 2014

Wow, it's been a long time since I last checked in.  We had a wonderful, crazy-busy holiday season.  I'll elaborate on that in a later post but suffice to say for now, we started out volunteering for a charity and wound up gaining much more than we gave.

Ian and I celebrated our Christmas birthdays together. It's always fun to share cake and celebration with my not-so-little guy.  And it's VERY good to have someone to help blow out the ever-increasing number of candles!!!    :)

My mom had a stroke over the holidays...adding complication upon complication onto her dementia.  She's out of the hospital and back at the nursing home.  We're waiting to see how much her life will need "adjusting"...

2013 wasn't our best year, medically-speaking; the not-so-little guy had his share of medical issues (although, for right now - it looks like he's beating the odds and doing well! (Thank You Nemours Childrens Hospital!!!!)   Praise God from whom all blessings (and challenges) flow!!!!!
Mom definitely had her issues and I had a hospital stay of my own for anemia and kidney issues. (I'm doing better now too!)  I also had a little mishap with peppermint oil and my eyes (don't ask...sometimes I can be such a goober.  Here's my little tip for you - NEVER,EVER get peppermint oil anywhere NEAR your eyes!!!  Hard lesson learned!!!)  My sweet hubby had a brush with a health scare as well.  His tests came back normal, but it was a good reminder to never take anything for granted.  Even our doggy has had her share of health problems; she has an enlarged heart and a collapsing trachea - she's responded well to treatment and we're praying that she'll be with us for her natural lifespan.

Losing our Donna was our absolute lowest point of the year...

Yes, we have had challenges,  but no matter how you slice it, we got through it all...like always,  "together... for always, forever and no matter what."

2013 brought the birth of my first grandchild - my sweet, sweet Jackson.  Oh how I love that little boy!  My son and his wife are going on a cruise in the spring...guess who gets to keep the little guy while his mama and daddy are away for a week?????  Whoo-hoo!  I can't wait to get my grandma paws on that little guy and just spoil the stuffing out of him!!!!    :)

I am looking forward to 2014...the stitching mojo is back in high gear and I'm anticipating watching  what floss and fabric will create this year.  Anyone remember my catastrophe with the wolf design I was making for the not-so-little guy?  Well....he pulled a "parent card" on me and has challenged me to give stitching that wolf design one more try.  (Parent card..."remember mom...you've always taught me never to walk away from something just because it's difficult.  Try again, Mom!  You can do it!  I believe in you!  Ugh...rats!...did I really ever say that?  Yup, I'm pretty sure I did...)
So, I'll be trying to stitch the exact same wolf design one more time. Here's hoping that those nasty frogs don't visit again!!!

I'm also joining the Stitch from Stash challenge this year.  I have so much beautiful stash that I really want to stitch...it's such a shame that it just dwells at the bottom of my stitching basket...so I'm going to give this challenge a try.  Saving money is never a bad habit either...so, here I go with my attempt at living on a new stash budget.  (Somehow I just know that this will also be the year that all my favorite designers publish the most wonderful designs that I just can't live without...LOL)  I'm also going to try to keep up with the Totally Useless SAL, just for fun.  I have "quite a few"...a.k.a.  "grundles" of UFO's and new projects that I would love to see in my finished pile this year.  I especially want to work on having some ornaments made by me, on the tree next year.  I have nearly every issue of the JCS Ornament magazines - dog-earred with all my favorites.  I think I might just have a go at actually stitching some instead of just drooling over the pretty pictures.  :)

I am working on coming up with my word for the year.  Every new year, I come up with a word that I try to make my "mantra" for the year...So far, my words have been "cherish" and "grace".  I'm not sure where my search for my word will take me in 2014.  I'll let you know what I choose when I know what I choose....   :)

Here's hoping that we'll all have a new year that is filled with wonder and curiosity and time to love those who are near and dear to us.  I wish each of us joy and peace.  Thank you, bloggy buddies for visiting my little corner of the world...

Hugs and Grace,
*Sharon

(I also want world peace and to lose 10 lbs.  Perhaps this will be the year????  I'm pretty sure we'll achieve world peace before those 10 lbs stop clinging to my "caboose" but here's hoping!)      :)
